Back when "Happy Days" had been really popular for years and was being dragged along for money long past the time it should just plain stop, the writers tried to get more ratings with cheap stunts that completely undermined any lingering integrity that the show had. In this case, most people will agree the last nail in the coffin of Happy Days was when they had The Fonz jump over a shark on waterskis.

So now when a TV show hits a point where it becomes so lame or gimmicky that it needs to stop right now, it has "Jumped the Shark". This web site surveys at just what point popular shows became unbearable with comments of wildly varying intelligence.
